Surrender and Sleep

Hibiscus skeletons shiver in morning light

As spiralling snow wraiths swirl around their chattering forms

Jabbing frosty fingers deep into the cracks and crannies.

Exploring and exposing weakness.

Sentinels to last summer’s splendor quiver against the onslaught

Steadfast and sure,

Yet some snap forth

Bowing in submission,

As if to honour the deep freeze…

The in between time

When nature reimagines life anew.

In the darkest days of slumber, it dreams.

Surrender, Sentinels, surrender.

What was will never be again.

Only a tapestry of memories remain.

Old threads intertwine with new.

Ethereal strands weaving one life to the next.

Your time has come,

But will never be forgotten.

Bow your sleepy skulls

And surrender.

About the Creator

Sherry Ryan

I have ink in my veins. It is a curse and a joy. Reality makes it challenging to devote myself to the pen. I have finally succumbed to my daemon blood and hereby commit myself to making it the reality of my life. Perhaps I will find peace.
