Snow in South Central

What's that I see

fallin' from the sky?

White icy pellets!

But not from some drive-by

The streets turn white

And my brothers and sister

Don't fear the streets

No more.

So out I go,

in the middle of the night

to gather some of that magic white stuff,

while my brothers and sister

and the all the kids in the hood

go out to play

for the first time

in a really long time.

Is it snow? Man, it's cold!

That gets me trippin'!

Real snow?

Here?

Not in the 'burbs or some rich man's place?

I've got to gather this up!

Stow it in the fridge!

Ain't nobody gonna believe it at school.

I don't know if I believe myself!

Snow.

Here!

In South Central.

Where magic just doesn't come around

and stay for long.

I want to keep this stuff

as long as I can.

Now I have it,

I can't let it go.

And I keep thinking:

There is some magic in this world.

If it can happen here,

man, it can happen anywhere!

(based on a TV news interview of a child who witnessed an actual freak event: a hail storm centered on a few blocks of Watts and South Central L.A.)
