Snare
by Sam Harty

I’ll never forget you standing there,
the last time we said goodbye,
and how you left without a care.
..
Your eyes, those lips, that skin so fair—
now all I can seem to do is cry.
I’ll never forget you standing there.
..
Deep in my soul there lies a tear;
I’ve no more will to try to fly,
and how you left without a care.
..
I thought that you would never dare,
haunted inside until the day I die.
I’ll never forget you standing there.
..
The distance between us I cannot bear,
pain that I can’t avoid or deny,
and how you left without a care.
..
My heart is caught in a wicked snare;
I can’t move no matter how hard I try.
I’ll never forget you standing there,
and how you left without a care.
