Breathe in

survey the damage

Breathe out

clean it all up

except for the bits

that get stuck on your toes

like pin prinks

causing gasps and droplets of blood.

It was a beautiful vase

once...

You try to repair it

with Kintsugi

with lacquer and gold

making something broken

and ugly

beautiful

but you can't mend

something

once you've smashed

it into smithereens

so you'll blame me.

or say

you never wanted

that good for nothing

thing anyway.

who needs a vessel

that only holds flowers.

Those gaslights shine

so bright

on all the broken pieces

breath tight in my chest

holding them all in my hands

I realize...

the Vase is who I am.
