Slipping Away

Time is the great divide

Between the dream and the hope

Proving that from it you cannot hide

And to its grand question it answers, nope

It slips from within our grasp no matter the effort

Look around thee and wonder where it has all gone

There is no tomorrow like the halls of the wretched sorrow

For which you'll now walk on battlefields for which you should have won

It is not something for which one can run to get more, for you cannot borrow

That which slips from within your grasp, no matter how much you've prayed

For that is the lesson for all to learn well, that it's not on our side

Time is the devil from which you'll receive hell, and nothing you can do

Will stop the devil in the details or the demons from which you cannot hide

For it's the devil that comes and oh yes, he'll have his just by taking what's due

It all slips away from the petulant and the afraid, it slips through their fingers

Waste it not by holding onto those things that are truly unworthy of your pain

Let not the waning hours keep you from finding all that is true

Chasing after what's slipped away will surely drive you to some say insane

When you should have focused more on what was really important for you

Chase not what's slipped into the garden of the abyss where you may not see

It was always slipping away from within your renowned orbit and path

As you ticked and you tocked ever closer to the oblivion's malicious tears

Eventually it happens to all the fallen, worthy and the forsaken feel the wrath

The final grains began slipping away before ever facing their fears

Slipping away started long ago with that first very breath
