She lay in the cold of an unending night, her only companions the lights in the sky. She pondered their origins as much as her own. She wondered if they had ever had a home? For she had no memory of one of her own. Could she visit them there, way up in the air? Could they come any closer than the dance they attended over these waters so coastal? If ever she could meet them in person would they recognize her as a familiar face or would they turn away thinking her a strange person? She had tried walking towards them night after night with nothing to guide her but their brilliant light. She could never catch up and they never waited but they never left her behind so she continued engaging. But on this night she is to exhausted to move and as her eyes slowly close she smiles as she muses. Maybe just maybe she is one of those lights and if she just drifts away she might awake in their light. There is nothing else left for her to try. And as she fades away she whispers, “Goodnight”
