Sky and Water

Bathing

By Harper Lewis Published 2 months ago 1 min read

I needed all of it:

the river

the pool

the beers

the bath

Beginning to feel

like me again—

sunshine, water,

suds

stealing summer

from the breath of autumn

whispering through the

capillaries

in my pancreas,

every drop of blood

oxygenated

by these tired lungs

beaten through arteries,

down side streets

to vital organs, spleen,

gall

bladder, bladder,

kidneys,

liver of the drama

unfolding

like a fitted sheet,

corners crumpling,

lines askew.

I’d trade it all

for an inflatable

island.
