Skewed Perception
Fighting Ableism (Poem)
“When you focus on someone’s disability you’ll overlook their abilities, beauty and uniqueness. Once you learn to accept and love them for who they are, you subconsciously learn to love yourself unconditionally.” ― Yvonne Pierre
You think you
Know me
Viewing my life
Through a shaded
Window,
You want to
Color my life
In negativity
But can’t you
See the beauty.
You look at
Me,
Eyes full of
Pity
As if my
Very existence
Is some kind
Of tragedy.
Can’t you
See
That your
Attitude is
A travesty
As you
View life
Through a skewed
Lens of
Ability.
Open your
Eyes
And you’ll truly
See
That we
All have
Something to
Offer
To a world
Who looks
But does
Not truly see.
