Awareness
The enemy knocks
to remind us that he's
lurking on the fringe
of our quiet
his chaotic guilt trip
tap tap tapping
on the window of our peace
when we don't answer the door
he just wants to remind us
that he had control once
and he wants it back
he won't be rude or aggressive
he'll persuade us that he
is our friend
as he trickles into
our mind like
black blood
quietly leaving a
dark sticky stain
just to leave his mark
like a brand
seared in a visible spot
he'll never stop trying
to catch us when we
fall over his obstacles
carefully placed to
make it look like
God did it

eyes open
ears tuned in
mind discerning
heart guarded
spirit armed
Recognize the deceit
Hold your ground
Don't give in
Amen.
