Sinking Subtly into Serenity

Smile Because it's Over, Not Because it Happened

By 96-Zest DoePublished 2 months ago 1 min read

I wake up, I smile, I lie back down for quite a while

Mulling over and over: the thought of a torn, four-leaf clover

Born adorned, but destined for scorn

Blessed with such luck, but strangled and buried into the muck

Asleep - pleasant dreams remain, but once awake - shrieking nightmares are sustained

Shame, shame, shame - I’m catatonic, histrionic knowing I’m the one to blame

I wake up, I smile, I lie back down for quite a while

I still mourn over that dead inner child

But I think I now know how to switch up my style

I'm spinning, I'm twirling, my mind is in season

I've developed the tools to enact my own treason

Even if not, it’s the one thing left I have to believe in

Untold damage to my vessel from which I shall succumb

My only dream of breaking free from chained pains of different strains is soon to come

As if I am the decerebrated from Metallica’s hit song “One”

I have a rhyming tool to stop me from crawling, bawling, and coming undone

I know exactly how to take a final bow - devolve my nightmare into a silent, peaceful file

I wake up, I smile, I lie back down for quite a while
