When I grow old,
I hope I look back on my life
and remember all that was.
Everything.
I don't want to glorify it.
I don't want to focus on the bright sunny days.
I want to bathe in the memory of every rainstorm.
I wanna soak up the downpours like the thirsty soil beneath my
once youthful garden.
I hope when I look back,
I see a life of simplicity.
Of basking in the quiet moments
and self-reflection of a mirror
I love and recognize.
Some people want to live fast and hard,
but I have no desire.
There was a time when my foot was on the gas pedal
and I was in a hurry to get nowhere in particular.
Then there was the time when I wanted to feel nothing,
but I felt everything instead.
There's a lot more pain with this approach.
There were many years I longed for love
and questioned whether or not I was worthy.
Now I see that you can't force a sunflower to blossom;
You have to nurture it and wait.
But when I'm old and gray,
I hope my face tells the story of a life well lived.
And I hope I wear every wrinkle and scar
like a map of the constellations
of the infinity surrounding us.
