Silk Grass
That feeling you get when you come home after years.

I hear the wind sing my name
Feel the silk grass on my toes.
Trees sway, untame- mountains smile…
Welcome home
Welcome home in style.
Full sprint- with this life content.
Skip, spin, footprints-
Light as a feather.
The Sky stretches open and wide
Like it’s been waiting for me.
No more shadows to hide-
Fresh air in my lungs and the space to be free.
Welcome home
Welcome home in style.
Full sprint- with this life content.
Skip, spin, footprints-
Light as a feather.
And the wind still calls my name
Soft through the leaves as I roam-
Every step, every breath the same whispering low-
You’re home.
Full sprint- with this life content.
Skip, spin footprints-
Light as a feather.
Silk Grass is a poem I wrote inspired by the welcoming feeling that I get every time I go back home to West Virginia. This is the state I was born in, and I was raised in these Appalachian Mountains. I was forced to move away to Texas when I was thirteen years old and we would come back to visit here and there. This is the feeling I would get the moment I would step outside and touch my toes into the mountain grass and breath in the fresh cool air.
