Silicon Men

An Invasive Species

By Donny FoleyPublished about a month ago • 2 min read

Men made of flesh and blood and beating heart ruled the world once

They were passionate about being human

Their beating hearts raced when they talked about nature and love and the unknown

Their blood pumped at the opportunity to create art and poetry and music

Their flesh, nothing more than a tool to achieve these passions

But Men made of flesh and blood and beating heart are a dying breed

They are being replaced by the cold unfeeling Silicon Men

These Silicon Men come from seemingly normal places however they lack the motivations of the Men of flesh

They are passionate only about progress for the sake of progress

They lack the beating heart to truly care for or love their fellow Man

They lack the blood to pump at the thought of creating something out of admiration for that thing

They may look like they have flesh but its just spray-painted silicon, a guise for them to wear for when they interacted with the Men of flesh, so they could pretend to be one of them

And since the Men of flesh were passionate and did care the allowed the Silicon Men to exist, thinking they need only gently remind them every now and then of what's important

"Oh but you Silicon Men, think of the forests, think of the beautiful beasts inside of them do you not care?"

"Oh but Silicon Men, think of the climate, you know as well as I that if it gets too hot we would all perish."

"Oh but Silicon Men, think of the art, does it not fulfill you to work on a skill and create something with your own sweat and blood and tears?"

"Oh but Silicon Men, think of your fellow man, do you not love them? Do you not have empathy? Does your beating heart not ache for those who suffer?"

And the Silicon Men would ignore them, for the Men of flesh did not know they lacked a beating heart or blood to pump

My fellow Men of flesh and blood and beating heart, the time has come to put aside the gentle reminders of the goodness of the world, for those reminders have fallen on deaf ears and blank faces, there was no beating heart in the Silicon Men for our words to take root in

My fellow Men of flesh and blood and beating heart it is now time to use those passions.

Your beating heart an engine for your efforts

Your pumping blood to drive you forward

Your flesh a tool to tear down the false idols the Silicon Men have built

Sitting idly by does not suit you my fellow Man

Our entire being, one made of actions like a beating heart or pumping blood, is meant to do as we are built to do

Take action

Do not let the Silicon Men cover the world in their cold and unfeeling chrome

They are the invasive species

You are the ones meant to inherit
