Do you really believe silence is golden? That's what people often say, don't they? Silence is golden...but is it?

I mean, when you think about it - though it may just be me

Silence, to me, is golden for but a short time - a creative catalyst, a meditative and peaceful intermission

Then my mind starts to take advantage and prey on me, silence is no longer my friend

Relishing in the quiet by haunting me, replaying my worst memories, my insecurities and inferiorities

Allowing the intrusive and disquieting thoughts I keep barricaded to get free

Clouding my better judgement, the inner critic untethered

The only way to combat this cerebral noise, is with sleep or external noise

I thrive on distractions to quiet the awful din within

On music, laughter, and conversation to keep the critic at bay

never allowing the silence to fully take over unless it's necessary.
