Silence

Grief

Sherbet flavoured, sickly sweet, lemon coated tears.

In the silence of the midnight hour, they come unbidden, but welcome,

Leaving my body shaking, gripped in grief I cannot show.

Exhausting days filled with noise require strength;

Never in the cold light of the sun do I lift the mask that hides the heartbreak of her death.

Compassion for myself is found in the warmth of the moon, in the embrace of darkness, in the still silence of the night.

Entirely alone, I will cry, and find bittersweet release
