the firm, crisp snap of the blanketing frost

settles into the last sigh of fall

a deep hue of blue, moans, as daylight is lost

and winter's harshness is displayed on the wall

the red sunlight bleeds, flooding over the snow

symbolizing the swift death of autumn

into the shadows the emptiness grows

as the chill reveals her powers to numb

the crack in the air, as she stretches her arms

sends the signal of death sweeping over

nature swells and shakes her coat to keep warm

she takes all things back, as fall, falls to her exposure

the birds cry their last, before fleeing

the leaves break, under the full of her weight

the forest explodes with a screaming

the kind only death can create

all things now encased in her silence

the world hardens in the grip of her spell

how beautiful her method of violence

as earth yields, frozen still, in her shell
