A Poem

You are the vestige of my love:

An echo of emotion long since dissipating into apathy.

A muscle memory of happiness flexing more in dull repetition than lustful instinct.

A collected oddity inherited from a dead self more alive to me than the stranger I married.

A worn patch grooved into comfort but wearing shear and frayed against cold distance.

A hollow chill felt with touches and kisses which linger from a ringing romance struck no more.

A malaise of platitudes performed in hopeless jest to try bored luck and fill the dragging hours.

A love that has settled like flaky sediments into a bed of decay and patient disinterest.

A clear sign I am undeserving of your willingness to overlook my deepest being.
