Shower Thoughts

Maybe it's the water,

maybe it's the heat

or the metaphorical cleansing of the soul

as our worries from the day

wash down the drain

with suds full of oil, dirt, and dust

scrubbed away

from our bodies.

Or maybe it's that we're finally alone

with one primal task

that our thoughts are able to run free.

With no one to share them with,

they have nowhere to go

but to expand.

And so our thoughts create thoughts,

which create even more.

Higher, complex, abstract thoughts

of all shapes and sizes

saturate our minds,

being nourished by the constant stream of hot water

pouring on our heads.

They open our eyes to new possibilities,

whisper secrets to our conscious minds -

riddles for us to analyze

and decide what they mean.
