Shout It Out

Don’t Let the Minority Rule

As rules are made to be broken

Words are made to be spoken

Yet the majority remain silent

As the minority remain violent

We each have our ways and beliefs

S0 share them and bring about relief

Speak up when unnecessary harm is done

Shout your convictions neath moon and sun

For if we see evil and turn our faces

We perpetuate their misbegotten cases

This is how Auschwitz came to be

Because most covered their eyes refusing to see

When a bully picks on someone smaller

Step up, hold him back, be the problem solver

Keep abreast of the world outside your door

So you know when we needs do more

When someone tries to enacts laws unjust

Vote them down, we truly must

Step up, stand forth, voice your anger

Step back from the precipice of societal danger

Without burning and looting from innocents

Just take a breath and use common sense

When intolerance is put forth as pride

Refuse to sit back and go for the ride

Get off the couch and step into the street

With friends, neighbors, even strangers, meet

Share your ideas but understand other views

Shake the hand of those different in every pew

We can reach agreement and tolerance as people

Even with those worshipping neath a different steeple

But not if we sit back, our truth unspoken

Letting hatred continue to keep humanity broken

This is a mantra for life if ever I've read one. This was excellently written with so much good sense and feeling, it made me warm inside. If only, eh, Andrew? If only....

  • Well written and so true. As my husband often quotes “All it takes for evil to flourish is for good men to do nothing.”
