Shoulder to the Wheel
An Inspired View of Motivation and Progress
Shoulder to the wheel,
Rolling on the river,
Put your back into it,
Don’t stop, never stop…
Motivate me,
I want to get out of this bed,
Youth unemployment’s all-time high,
Pay me, I’ll do it.
Work till your musclebound,
Block by Block, and
Brick by Brick,
We’ve built this all before.
Progress for the sake of it,
Progress till we’re the best at it,
Progress, progress, now please;
Confess.
You slink in the shadows,
You hide in plain sight,
While others build the world,
You’re tapping mechanical keys.
Where would you be,
Without your computer,
Without your phone,
I think you’d be very, cold and alone.
But you contribute,
You vote – for the donkey,
You walk the dog – and worry not about the shit,
You wash your car – and poison the river.
But it’s not about that, is it?
You have your computer,
And your right to complain,
It’s a problem with authority, that you have to blame.
Simon says stand up,
And you’ve sat down,
Simon says sit down,
And you’ll stand back up.
But they’re coming to get us,
The New World Order,
With their Agenda 21, their lizards and their GMO drugs,
All they really are – are idiots and thugs.
You don’t get much more cynical than this,
Are you on the outside looking in?
With your metal and your grunge,
Or the inside looking out – with your pop and your rap.
You’ve moved far enough now,
You’re out of the rut,
With a pain in your gut, starting to strut,
Back again, asleep at the wheel.
