Shopping With My Eleven-Year-Old Granddaughter
For two birthday parties and two graduations
At eleven, you know most everything
There is very little you don't know about things
having to do with other little girls for sure.
You even know the best cure
for grandmas when tired.
~
"Let's sit Grandma, you are retired
right? No rush!" So, then we were
in the store too long, yes sir
we were then late for the meeting
where she would be wrapping
all the gifts. I said please be quiet
~
She said she would be ultraquiet.
Whoever would have thought that
wrapping could be so loud? I flat
out told her to wait until we got home
leaving her to go outside to roam
around the place until the meeting
finished. Then she was on her phone
her sissy box grandpa says, and alone
to get into mischief by herself
~
I enjoy this age myself
Teen is not my favorite as preteens
in my mind are way better than teens
When they get to be teenagers
they disappear for a few years
bringing Grandma to tears.
~
We have been through this time
before. Yes, a time or two mine
have gotten there. Good thing
they come back when everything
changes and they remember their
old grandparents still waiting there
for them to return. So sad sounding
We have gotten good at rebounding.
Good thing we have thirty grands
all different ages and 13 greatgrands.
~
She picked out a dress and sweater
and the same dress for her sister
only added a button-down shirt
to go along with it. It can't hurt
to buy them both a dress.
It will be cute. She wants her sis
to look like her. I said you already do
look alike. She said, "Is that true?"
Yes, she does look just like you.
She had a smile as we left the store too.

Fun times with a eleven-year-old granddaughter
I remember similar times with my daughter
I always say that your kids are good but grands
are so much better. Then there are greatgrands
so cute, and loveable. Babysitting with the grand
was fun and a lot of work. She got the idea quickly
though that her payment would be a summer dress.
I thought that sounded fair and she would slickly
get a toy out of me as well. One for her and her sis.
~
When talking graduates, she said, They would rather
have money, grandma. Do you have cards?" Other
than that I had no say. It would be money and a card.
Sometimes what they say makes sense. That can be hard
for Grandma's sometimes. But she is right. Now to move
on and have a good day. Get in the groove
set for me by my eleven-year-old granddaughter.
She wanted to show mom, who was working from home, my daughter!
So, home she went, until next time.

Author's Note: enough of this rhyme. For the Out of Order challenge. I need to get back to my fundraising plunge!
