Shoot For The Moon

Go for it

I’ve been personally asked to write about

That one thing I’ve always wanted to do,

But to this day I have always had an excuse

When it was really fear, why I didn’t pursue.

***

Are you now incredibly curious and eager

To discover what it was that I so feared,

What was it that scared, you may well ask

And why allow your unease to interfere?

***

I have been keen to start my own business

A business in bookkeeping to aid others,

But my biggest obstacle along the way

Was my children, as I was a single mother.

***

You see, I felt I could not afford the risk

I needed that predictable regular income,

So that I could comfortably sleep at night

Consistently receiving a fortnightly sum.

***

This prompt has now raised the question

What exactly is it that’s stopping me now,

My boys are fully grown with their own lives

Is it still the fear or that I don’t know how?

***

Maybe, just maybe, it’s time to re-think

Decide if this is something I still want to do,

I now have a satisfactory career, one I love

Is that enough or do I need something new?

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
