Home from a trip.
Chicago and Battle Creek had blue skies for five days. Blue skies and mid-seventies. Heaven.
It sprinkled on the way home from the Seattle airport, and the wind blew all night.
Wind chimes and bronze double bells sang to the night, all night.
This morning, I woke to the usual thick gray Autumn skies.
It's my son's birthday.
It's rainy and breezy; the trees are gifting their leaves to the streets, turning the edges yellow, gold, and red.
They glisten admirably in the rain, a lovely visual as I drive home from an appointment.
An afternoon to myself to catch up on emails and unpack. Then….
BOOM! The table shook.
It's my son's birthday.
My welcome home: an earthquake, reported to be 16 miles deep and 40 miles away. On my son's birthday.
