Ship of Fate

When life's journey takes a turn

By Meredith HarmonPublished about a year ago 1 min read
A path divergent. Image wrested from Magic Photos with much angst, and questionable details.

When next I reach, know I will hesitate,

The gulf between us is one breath too wide,

Cruel twist of fate that leaves us desolate.

***

Crushed by my feelings, quite inconsolate,

I thought you’d be a constant by my side,

When next I reach, know I will hesitate.

***

I stand on dock amidst the crates of freight,

Your ship will sail without me, on the tide,

Cruel twist of fate that leaves us desolate.

***

You swear you love me true, my soul’s bond-mate,

I thought you’d stay, but now alone I ride,

When next I reach, know I will hesitate.

***

A black-bound letter awaits at the gate,

Life and health gone, summarily denied,

Cruel twist of fate that leaves us desolate.

***

I am quite numb, my feelings insensate,

Your shell touches land, no longer my bride,

When next I reach, know I will hesitate,

Cruel twist of fate that leaves us desolate.
