Shh!

Say It Again

They burned out my eyes so I wouldn't see

The scale of the atrocities I endured

For it is dangerous to know the truth

Where mice hold sway

Hush! The wrong words will instantly reach their mark

They sealed my lips with eternal silence

Bruises and gashes adorned my disfigured face

I nearly cracked my head open on the marble tiles

On this perfectly staged crime scene

Hush! The wrong words will instantly reach their mark

They stuffed my ears with cotton wool

To avoid tangled conversations

About bloodshed and violence in the same house

I had to abide by the rules of a peace seemingly forced

Hush! The wrong words will instantly reach their mark

They pinched my nose so I wouldn't smell a trick

“Go to your room; we know better than you”

I had only a sheet of paper and a pen

I’ve been writing stories for as long as I can remember

Hush! The wrong words will instantly reach their mark

Years of enduring hurtful touches

Rife with violence in words and deeds

No one to soothe the salty tears

Resilience vanished into nothingness, without a trace of regret

Hush! The wrong words will instantly reach their mark

Now the words flow without delay

Those torments inflicted by accountants and lathe operators

They knew better how to hide the impossible

In the dark recesses of their vast universe

Hush! The wrong words will instantly reach their mark
