She Takes You By Storm

As she recoups her power

She will fight long before she’ll run,

So make sure you pick your battles,

She’ll read you your rights in the verse of your song,

Your hearing will weed out the screams and rattles.

***

Do not ask for her forgiveness,

As that is not a right she’ll ever bless you with,

She holds the bar high, be prepared to jump it,

Her strength is far greater than any myth.

***

Watch for the tides of her anger,

Surfing the crest will see you fail,

Every crashing wave will bury you asunder,

As you drown beneath the currents of her tale.

***

She doesn’t fear the need of any backlash,

As she takes you by storm, relishing her needs,

She strips the skin from your skeleton,

Necessitating the very idea that you’ll bleed.

***

Your days are dwindling, your case has been lost,

The steps you now take are severely numbered,

The race has been won, was it worth the cost,

Now you are penned up with the trouble encumbered?

***

Feel that soft breeze upon your face, recognise it,

It was the love she once showered but you rejected,

That’s when she won the war, allowing you to live in hope,

But now the dues are cast and she’s stirring up the bills collected.

***

You’ll have one small chance to make it right,

Though she doesn’t expect you to ever succeed,

In fact she’d much prefer she torture and torment,

Her life’s very essence is strengthened when you bleed.

***

Minutes left, don’t take them for granted,

That knock on the door is death revisiting today,

Pay for your crime, suffer with your time,

You’re a dead man walking unless you have the power to pay.

***

Last drinks are called from behind her bar,

Heads whip around to see who is the bully of the hour,

As all eyes land on you, you hang your head in shame,

You may have once been the tormenter but she’s taken back her power.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.

Very nicely done. That's a woman that shouldn't be messed with.
