She Stands, Fierce
An Ode to Queer Advocacy
She stands there, fierce, bathed in a rainbow glow
Flag waving behind her in the colours of her people
A warm hug of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and violet
Life, healing, sunlight, nature, art, serenity, and spirit
Accented by the hues of those still fighting to be heard
Baby blue, soft pink, brilliant white
The sir, the lady, those yet to discover their true self
Supporting them all, unwavering, unquestioning, wholly accepting
She stands there, fierce, defending her star
The star of creation, of power, wisdom, majesty, love, mercy, and justice
“We belong here too”, she cries, desperate to receive the acceptance she gives so willingly
Tears travel down her cheeks as she stands there, fierce, heckles washing over her
Still she marches on, step by step, strength to strength
Forever battling to be seen, to be heard, to be accepted, to be loved
A force of nature stronger than the wind, more beautiful than the sea
My inspiration
Fighting for those unable to tell their stories, for those yet to speak their truth
She stands there, fierce.
