What is your idea of perfect happiness?

The backwater romantic pirate

down in the valley

wanted to make sense of the bitterness

of a changing world.

(It was her:

White woman

perched in an ivory tower

shrouded in mist

spring forward into

tragic flight

from your desolate prison cell

toward

the imaginary worlds

of the surveillance state

where you can be anyone –

at least for a moment,

at least for any eyeblink

at least for the time it takes

to fall, helpless,

into one of the many

open irises

dilating icily around you.)

He will never know

he is looking

in the wrong

place.
