She May Give Off The Scent Of Defeat

But I caution you all the same

She showers in your anger, maturing with each scold,

Beware of your unfairness, she’ll not tolerate torture uncontrolled,

When she bows under her morality, she’ll always agree,

But if you’ve erupted like a volcano, she’ll soon turn tail and flee.

***

She laughs in the face of torment, carrying the moon within her strength,

It’s hysterical that you’ll try to bring her to her knees, holding her at arm’s length,

You’re disillusioned at the pinnacle of your power,

Once she’s run her course, you’ll be the one to cower.

***

She waxes in the sunlight, flowering in brilliance,

Skipping over the discourses, flying high in total resilience,

She whispers her emotional love and passion,

Discarding the open rules of anything in today’s crazy fashion.

***

She creeps through the bird calls, sweetened in delight,

Strolling along the umber walk, always ready to dash and fight,

The wind steers clear when she’s foraging in tears,

Confused that anyone would desert her, discard her through her fears.

***

She cries starlight and moonbeams when she attracts your ire,

Sailing the darkness, descending to earth, wind and fire,

Her style is opaque, shimmering through every stage,

Faster and faster she oscillates, destroying your roaring rage.

***

She fastens her esteem, untying it from your senses,

Until her wings are scorched, due to the ugliness of consequences,

Now she is stabled here on earth, mired in distress,

Wasting away, while anticipating whether you’ll ever really confess.

***

She is a furloughed angel of the breeze, roughened in torment,

Drowning in her worries, her fear, her burning discontent,

Sinking beneath the torrid waves of passion and desire,

Leadened by your hesitation, your unending permission to never retire.

***

She may give off the scent of defeat,

But I promise you, don’t attempt to ever repeat,

She’ll castrate you with one piercing glance,

You believe you’ve won, when honestly you don’t stand a chance.

***

She’s a chameleon in disguises, brow beating you into submission,

You’re a dead man walking, celebrating your ambition,

Not recognising the knife she holds at your throat,

Wrapping you in mischief, unbelieving she’s captured you with a simple anecdote.

***

She rises from the ashes, bird like she preens,

Discarding your bones and carcass, sick and tired of your screams,

Her arms extent to her lover, as the moon kisses her lips,

Raising her higher until she casts upon the world, the last lunar eclipse.

***

Your destruction goes unnoticed, you were so insignificant,

Believing you’d destroyed her, but instead she’s more magnificent,

You lost the battle of a lifetime, with your cocky attitude,

Due to your foolishness, you’ll now waste away in your forever solitude.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
