She is Lost

Living within the darkness

She is shattered, broken and damaged,

This latest battle within her life too big, even for her,

She is a hot mess, lost in so many different ways,

Struggling to breathe, the pain and tears a constant blur.

***

She is lost within the darkness of her life,

Alone, with no idea if she’ll ever experience again the joy of light,

Her heart irreparably broken by one she loves deeply,

One that has defined the parameters of her latest fight.

***

She is lost within her torment,

Broken like never before,

She’s fought her toughest battles,

But was not prepared for one that hurt so much more.

***

She is lost within her solitude,

Her support gone much to her shock,

There’s no understanding left for her to grasp,

Just a mountain of a stumbling block.

***

She is lost within her loss,

Tortured knowing there’s no way to repair,

A loss of words flowered into agony,

Leaving her life horribly bare.

***

She is lost within her disbelief,

In which she is terribly misunderstanding,

Unable to cope with the futile reality,

All because she was the least demanding.

***

She is lost within the pain of disloyalty,

Gratitude gone by the wayside,

Years of sacrifice now ignored and forgotten,

Yet somehow she needs to learn to take it in her stride.

***

She is lost within her replacement,

Tossed aside as useless once better was found,

Left to wallow in rejection,

No longer wanted around.

***

She is lost without her peace,

Destruction a force with which she contends,

The damage is final, she’s broken beyond repair,

There’s nothing left for which to make amends.

***

The decision is now final,

She has lost almost everything dear,

Still she holds her head high as she walks away,

Feeling defeated in a life of fear.

***

I hope you’re proud of the mess you’ve left her in,

Sleeping soundly at night with next to no remorse,

She only hopes you’ll one day feel the regret,

Too little, too late, but all par for the course.

About the Creator

Colleen Millsteed

My first love is poetry — it’s like a desperate need to write, to free up space in my mind, to escape the constant noise in my head. Most of the time the poems write themselves — I’m just the conduit holding the metaphorical pen.
