She rereads the text:
“You’re pathetic, hanging around those women,
hoping loneliness will lower their bars.”
She knows it won’t fix anything.
She wants it to hurt him, so she sends it.
She tells herself this is what happens
when someone goes low,
maybe she believes it.
But she remembers the version of herself who tried,
who explained, who wanted to be good.
That version didn’t survive him.
She scrolls through old messages.
She finds the exact moment she crossed
from honesty into harm.
She names it: pettiness, revenge, jealousy.
It is Valentine’s Day.
Love exists everywhere except with him and her.
Every card, every rose, every couple
reminds her she is not chosen.
She orders elephant poop to be delivered to him.
This is not a joke.
It is meant to hurt him.
She laughs.
He does not respond.
No reply arrives.
She is burning bridges.
She knows it.
She chose destruction.
She is not pretending she is above it.
Later, alone,
she notes the damage—his, hers.
She does not pretend it is equal.
She knew what she was doing.
She did it anyway.
No forgiveness is deserved.
About the Creator
Tina D. Lopez
Finally realizing I need to start acting like the main character in my own life. Writing helps me figure out where I keep losing the plot and giving away my spotlight. My story is a big mix of drama, comedy, tragedy, thriller, and, horror.
