Shards of us

Memories

Broken things can be mend

Shards of Us

The night falls heavy, thick with despair,

Your voice, now silence, haunts the air.

The echoes linger, a ghost of “we,”

Once bound, now broken—just you, just me.

The stars look on with cold, distant eyes,

Witness to love’s slow, bitter demise.

Promises whispered, now lost to the wind,

A story of two that came to its end.

The cracks in my chest stretch deep and wide,

Each one a place where you used to reside.

Memories flicker, both cruel and kind,

A mirror of joy I can’t leave behind.

What is a heart when split in two?

An empty shell that once held you.

Yet through the ruin, the tears, the ache,

Perhaps there’s strength in what will break.

For time, they say, can soften the sting,

And grief gives way to the hope it brings.

But tonight, I lie with this heavy pain,

Counting shards of love in the falling rain.
