Shanghai Sunrise

4 AM, we sat across from the dorm,

Me warping a branch, you recalling pi.

Before, we crashed bikes: bloodied knees, jeans torn.

You later flew over fence, head first, I

Didn’t know how to translate you, giggling,

dancing through the halls & vomiting as

Patients withered away, a man wiggling

needles out, he yelps, fluid gurgles, dazz-

-ling. We couldn’t see the stars, sky sickly

Purple; magnolias glowed like frayed eyes.

We talked and talked in your blood spattered T;

Sun began to rain down; day was demise.

Dreamt you were stuck in a rosebush had to

Chew your way out; now clarified anew.
