shadows of the lost city (4)

There was something in the trees, something beyond the usual wildlife. They heard rustling, the snap of branches, but when they shone their flashlights into the dark, there was nothing but an endless stretch of forest.

The first attack came at dawn.Nate had wandered off, camera in hand, to capture the sunrise. He wasn’t far, but the screams reached them before they could react.

By the time they found him, he was lying on the forest floor, blood pooling around him. Something had torn into his leg, the flesh mangled, and he was barely conscious, muttering about shadows that moved faster than he could film.
