Shadows at My Door

A Night of Fear and Silent weeping

Lying on my bed, I feel the tremors of my body,

Cuddled up, I hear those dark footsteps—

Approaching my door, unrest grows within.

I fear what may be bestowed on me this time.

The countless knocking, the wiggling of the doorknob,

That shadow trying to get hold of me.

I shed tears of pain at the thought of it,

Hoping that the banging will cease.

Again and again, I recount this scene,

A haunting presence, a recurring dream.

But as the hours stretch into the night,

I wonder if the fear will ever take flight.

Still, I hold tight, with hope flickering small,

That someday I’ll be free from it all.

For in every shadow, light may appear,

And in my darkest moments, I'll conquer my fear.
