Shadow of Shame
I struggle with this, but have hope things will get better.
Shame is the shadow that lurks within me,
My constant companion — I fight to break free.
Learned as a child, reinforced as I've grown;
This burden of shame is the worst thing I've known.
—
Born out of trauma, events long ago,
Shame swallows up everything, bringing me low.
Feeling unlovable wreaks hell inside,
It urges me, "Run!" Compels me to hide.
—
I "know" that shame is a liar, a fraud,
But, sometimes, I don't feel like a child of God.
The light of Truth may seem distant and gray,
But Truth conquers darkness and keeps it at bay.
—
I rely on faith to embrace what's True:
We're each one a miracle, both me and you.
Designed by Love — the truth of our story.
Shame can't linger when we reflect Love's glory.
