Shades of Color

I used to be unable to differentiate between a dark shade of any color and pitch black. I once lost my source of light. Now, listen, now I can tell you the difference between baby blue and the sky in different hues. I can tell you the season based on the color of the leaves—even if they aren’t falling. I can probably tell you the hex number to the color of the ocean. Hell, literally hell, I can probably tell you the exact amount of contrast between the orange and yellows of the flames of hell. I know, I can pinpoint the light layers of gray in the wings of guardian angels. But my biggest of worries and my deepest concern is that my heart doesn’t have a shade, or a shine, or any attributes to color. I only saw any signs of life within itself, last time I was hurt—it wasn’t the first—but I remember vividly the gushing water in the shade of red. I choose what shades of color to identify with. I have a say to what shade will represent the eighth color of the rainbow. And i think that shade will be me. Chameleons deserve the spotlight even temporarily. Shades of colors all come with a story—stories all come with shades of color.
