when night nears
She opens a window
for the cigarette smoke to escape
She drifts off to sleep
waiting for the Grim Reaper
a silent invitation
He seems to be late
night after night, the reaper fails to show
front door unlocked
a cool breeze through the window
"You know those things take years off of your life, right?" He said over the phone.
She chuckled as she lit up the cigarette, "You think I don't know?"
"Then why do you do it?" He asked.
"I'm waiting for someone," she hung up the phone.
Nothing was different the night the reaper decided to show
"I want to die." She told the dark figure standing in the entryway of her home.
"And what makes you think I don't have better things to do with my time?" the reaper replied.
She took a cigarette and lit it for the reaper, "I'll make it worthwhile." She said with tears in her eyes.
The reaper smiled a sly smile
The clock above the mantle, frozen in time.
