Seven Seventy-Sevens and a Kiss That Said Goodbye
The lucky number

Normally,
I wouldn’t get caught up in the world’s ideas of right and wrong
And
Luck and schemes and scams.
But,
On this particular day, I was defenseless and weak and she was
Right there to
Lure me
In.
We were at a grocery store and I carried on business as usual. I walked down the aisle with a cigarette in my mouth, huffing and puffing. And occasionally taking a pint of JD out of my coat pocket to take a sip.
I had planned on cooking dinner for myself.
I had daydreamed of being completely left alone with numerous bottles of wine and…
Chicken and shrimp pasta topped with the works, herbs, and spices. I had fancied myself a modern-day Martha Stewart with a cock the size of king kong.
Anyhow, the day was sunny and my car had bird shit on it but I was not about to let that stop me.
I went in and I was slow with finding everything I needed.
I was taking my time, enjoying myself.
“The world had never seemed so easy.” I thought.
And, with a cigarette in my mouth, I notice this woman out of the corner of my eye.
I didn’t really pay her any mind, I just continued to search for my meal.
We get up to the cash register and the worker advertises the lottery as any worker should do.
“No, I'm good,” I said.
She was standing behind me.
“What are you some kind of pussy?” She had looked at me. She was giving me those eyes that said “I’m gonna fuck you” or “I'm gonna kill you.” I hadn’t quite figured out which one.
I looked up and down at her.
She was beautiful. She had long brown hair and she was wearing a bikini top but jean shorts covering her generous ass. The top, on the other hand, was full. She carried those things around like milk jugs and Swayed them back and forth too. She was mesmerizing.
Still in my observation, I noticed a number seven tattooed on her hand.
“Sure I’ll play.”
“Your numbers?” Said the worker.
“Seven Seven Seven, Seventy-Seven Seven.”
She looked at me fixedly.
She had known that I had known.
The entire time, I was thinking of another woman who had bought me a souvenir from Vegas and made me promise to roll seven every time I started my day.
That had gotten me further than she ever imagined.
I placed my numbers and walked out.
I got into my car, lit another cigarette, took a good hard drag, started the car, and listened to the radio jump from nothing to noisy.
The girl had just started to walk out. She stopped in front of my car with a bottle of wine in her hand.
“All sevens?” She asked, with a shifty somewhat disapproving look on her face.
“It’s my lucky number baby. Been betting sevens all my life, From the womb to the graveyard, lucky number 7.” Of course, I thought of Lauren while saying this.
“That’s my favorite number.” the lady said.
“Oh yeah? Great minds think alike. What’s your favorite drink?” I asked. Eyeing her bottle.
She showed it to me, full force and as she moved it into the air, that glamorous set moved along with it.
It was a bottle of Merlot.
“Great minds think alike.” I said again, nodding my head as if to say “Get in the car.”
She got in and we drove back to my place on Bowery. When we got there, the bottle popped open, and shortly after, her jean shorts.
She kissed away without a single thought in sight.
But me, “lucky number seven.” I thought.
Got me to where I am today.
