Set In Our Ways

We rise every morning

Same body. Same face

Expecting the normal

No changes in fate.

*

We trudge down for breakfast

Same creak on the stairs

Reminding our brain cells

Today's just the same.

*

The smell of fresh coffee -

pretends us alive

As we scroll through our phones

in the same shirt and tie.

*

Like zombies we leave -

Drag our legs to the car

Light a smoke, turn the key

drive away to our jobs.

*

All day at our desks -

feeling empty and grey

No ambitions to change

We are set in our ways.
