Selling Firewood Door To Door £1 A Bundle Ready To Burn
Selling firewood door to door,
One pound a bundle, maybe more,
Ready to burn and nice and dry,
Stacked up neatly reaching high.
I pulled my cart along the street,
Greeting everyone I’d meet,
Some bought one and some bought three,
Helping make a living for me.
Winter winds began to blow,
Bringing frost and bits of snow,
People wanting warmth at night,
Watching flames burning bright.
An old man waved me through his gate,
Said my timing had been great,
His shed was empty, cold and bare,
He bought five bundles then and there.
A little dog ran at my feet,
Thinking firewood was a treat,
Grabbed a stick and dashed away,
Making me laugh that day.
House to house I made my round,
Pushing wheels across the ground,
Honest work from dawn till dark,
Sometimes finishing near the park.
Some days sales were rather slow,
Some days every bundle would go,
Still I carried on with pride,
Knowing hard work was my guide.
One pound bundles, dry and clean,
Best little bargain to be seen,
Selling firewood door to door,
Keeping families warm once more.
