The greener the grass, the greener the iris…

The greener the grass on one side, the greener the iris on the other‐

An eye painted over with envy will surely miss what maintains the one side,

unknowing of the price of the hue in its sight...

solely focused on the outermost pigment, blind of its own spite‐

completely oblivious to the covetous seed planted in its own heart.

~

Turn your sight, oh jealous eye‐

Can you not see that your own house is being robbed?

For what have you not, that you must fix your gaze on what your surroundings do?...

but of course you cannot see, from your chosen point of view,

the color of your own eye, is far greener than anything else with the same hue.

~

Free yourself, oh envious heart‐

Do you not know that the keeper at your door prevents any goods from entering?

You see so much, what you cannot reach

that you have no idea of the grip which jealousy has on you‐

You remain sightless in the tint of your resentment, even with a mirror in front of you.

~

The unseen cost of color‐

For what do I lack, that I must take from the shades that surround me?...

it is not green, but black, this heart always seeking to fill itself‐

So keen, these eyes, when it comes to the desires around me,

seeing only in green, clueless of the costs of their own color.

About the Creator

JM

Personally, writing began as a creative outlet, to be a means of processing and venting emotion, but it has become so much more. Something I want not to be just relatable, enjoyable and a good read, but to reach someone who is in need.
