Hushed tones float around corners like the wind in the night

Hurried conversations carried on as if the last breath would soon end

Hasty opinions shared like scientific fact

Averted eyes and sideways glances cut like sharpened daggers

Names offered up like sacrifices to the guillotine

Though no one dares utter a word to whom the utterances apply

This would mean facing the truth which sends shivers racing

Power in numbers hidden behind makeshift lies

A smokescreen, a show put on for accolades fit for no one but the moralless

A secret whisper used as a weapon

Broken arrows flying a crooked path in the night
