SEASONS OF THE LAKE
It’s always a calm place to be
=+=+=
It seems like only yesterday
I sat upon the sand;
There were many men in rowboats –
Fishing poles were in their hands.
The children splashed and swam around –
Their laughter filled the air.
Varieties of sandcastles
Were notices everywhere.
Too soon a chill came over the land
To hinder summer fun;
We glumly donned our sweaters
With the setting of the sun.
In just a while the lake will freeze;
The young and old will be enticed
To come again in merriment
And skate upon the ice.
And again, the weather will turn warm –
The ice will start to crack.
The promise of the springtime
Will bring more people back.
Sandcastles again will fill the shore,
As the birds begin to sing.
It will be another summer –
But it’s a whole new everything.
