We welcomed the sunlight
No longer counting hours
Until its disappearance
Knowing its presence
Would push along completion
Of tasks set aside,
During the long nights
When nightmares wandered ground
And our steps were feeble
In getting away.
We absorbed the sun’s rays
Feeling spirits lift
With time spent in open air
Beneath the open sky-
Relishing the feeling
Of buoyancy
Floating along
Until exhaustion sets in
With the ecstasy of
A day well done-
Sleeping beneath a moon
With clear dreams
Of brilliant light
And wide calm oceans.
We knew the steps
The repetition we would face
And still we moved along
With the thoughts
That all was new,
Not expecting the darkness to encroach
As the winter season approached
Once more,
Marking another trip
Around the sun,
That we would take for granted
In the end.
