Sea of Glass

A poem inspired by a childhood dream that I will never forget

Shards cover the floor, scattered, shattered, and sharp. A heartbeat in the middle, a sea of glass.

My mother with her big smile and loud laugh, talking to a friend. Warning me not to come in.

Young and helpless watching her step into the sea, bleeding, fleeting, and leaving.

Cold and alone standing on the shore of unknown. Watching the person who once felt like home just go, gone.

I watched life leave her body, like tears left my eyes. Now just a vessel she was, soulless, stolen.

This left me feeling hopeless standing in the doorway broken, shattered, scattered, and scarred. But when I woke there you were whole, tangible, Art.
