It came outside my window

Scritch scratch

scritch scratch

Something scratches at my window

stirs me from a sound sleep

Sounds like nails or more like claws

I freeze in place too terrified to look

Still as can be, my heart pounds fiercely

as intruding eyes watch me

If I dared a glance, what would I see?

The glowing yellow eyes of a cryptid?

the eerie reds of a demon?

Am I about to be abducted?

Is there something really there?

Scritch scratch

scritch scratch

I force my thoughts to logic and reason

as I hear the sound again

Maybe it is only the wind

the trickery of an over active mind

But no matter how much I try to rationalize

to calm my terrified self

I will not turn around to look until daylight comes!
