My dear Scarlet

So beautiful to behold.

A tortured rose-colored hue,

From the Middle English "scarlat",

From the Old French escarlate,

From the Latin "scarlatum",

From the Persian سقرلات saqerlât.

You have such beauty,

Yet your reputation associates you with immorality

Sin, prostitution and adultery

From the days of

"The Great Harlot",

"Dressed in purple and scarlet",

Vilified as such.

Scarlet, bright red in color, with a slightly orange tinge.

In the spectrum of visible light,

And upon traditional wheels of color,

You are one-quarter of the way between red and orange,

Slightly less orange than vermilion

And yet, why? do you ask

Are other bright shades of red associated with

Courage, force, passion, heat, and joy, whilst being

Associated with martyrs, and with sacrifice.

"If your sins be as scarlet, they shall be made white as snow".

Oh, my dear scarlet!!!!

Scarlet, color of power, wealth and luxury since ancient times

May you now find vindication and fulfillment within minds and souls

May your radiant colors find peace, joy, affirmation and true worth

In the complete acceptance of your newly found salvation

For scarlet's lovely hues are now freely liberated from sin!

Welcome home, Scarlet!

"If your sins be as scarlet, they shall be made white as snow". I enjoyed your poem.😍😍

  • Very cleverly and beautifully written! Scarlett is a favourite colour of mine… the colour my bridesmaids wore, long ago!

This was so beautifully written Novel! I love the flow and elegance of this piece! So many great references and facts!

  • Don't forget Scarlett O'Hare! "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" how often you get attached to the idea of sin & licentiousness by those who think themselves holy. Jesus loved, called, held & holds you dear for you heard his voice & responded while they turned up their noses & walked away. Let them call you wicked & unholy. God sees you as faithfulness, courage & love.

I enjoyed this so much, Allen! So many reds in here, and your words are so true. Brilliant. As a side note, the wedding pic almost matches mine. I had a white gown and made my crutches match with white satin ribbon wrap and maroon flowers ... so not scarlet, but not too far off! 💕😊

  • Omgggg my favourite colour is red and I loveeeeee scarlet! I love how you included the origins of the word scarlet. Escarlate reminded me of escargot, lol! Loved your poem!

This is stunning Novel! I love how you poetically weaved in the background info and explained the physical colour itself as well as the associations and potential. You have the best of all worlds in this poem. Thank you for taking part!
