When asked for something that you cannot give,

You may feel the urge to simply say "yes"

But sometimes it's important to say "no"

In a way that won't cause distress

Begin with gratitude, show that you care

For the person making the request

But then be clear and honest, don't just pretend

That you can do what they suggest

Offer an alternative, a different solution

That still shows your intent to help

It may not be exactly what they hoped for

But it could make them feel less helpless

Express empathy, acknowledge their need

And show that you understand

But also be firm, set boundaries in place

So they know where they stand

Remember that saying "no" doesn't mean

That you don't value their request

It simply means that you have limits too

And that's something we all must address

So when faced with a question that you can't meet

Don't just say "yes" to avoid the strife

Say "no" in a kind and thoughtful way

And you'll navigate it well in life.
