Sapphires
From the prompt: "Marry me, the stranger begs"

I’m looking down.
Him, on bended knee.
His words drip like crude oil
and I don’t hear Him.
My heart is throbbing
but for all the wrong reasons.
Then I hear it…
“Marry me.”
Not formed as a question,
but made as a demand.
In his hand, a ring.
A ruby framed in gold.
*
I miss when things were different.
I miss our conversations, aspirations…
I miss Him.
I miss loving Him.
But he’s changed.
Morphed into a monster,
a shark in my waters,
he waits for me to panic,
to bleed for him.
*
He’s a stranger to me now.
I wonder if he would recognize me
on the street,
or in passing…
*
But I’m sure he’s forgotten me
like how he forgot
I prefer sapphires…
